An obituary for Arthur

"Arthur H. Decker, 65,
of 217 South Thomas street, Gilman, died Sunday at 12:42 p.m., at the home of
nephew, Harold Decker. Death was attributed to an
apparent heart attack. He had been in failing health the past year.
Born April 3, 1898 in Danforth township, he was a son of
George and Aline Kohlman Decker, attended Danforth schools and was a lifelong
resident of the Danforth and Gilman communities.
Surviving are his wife, Vera Schoon Decker; a
foster-daughter, two foster-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece. He was
preceded in death by his first wife; his father; a brother, Harold, and a
sister, Evelyn.
Mr. Decker was married in 1919 to Nellie Peekin at Gilman. She
died in 1959. He was married to Mrs. Verna (sic) Schoon on December 24, 1961.
He was employed for many years as a mechanic at Gilman
Motors Company. In 1953, he bought the Shell oil station and operated it until
1960. He was employed by the Hooker Paint & Glass Company in Bradley for
two years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Decker was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren
Church of Danforth. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the
Reilly Funeral Home in Gilman. The Rev. Reed S. Shirey will officiate and
burial will be in Gilman cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until
time for the rites."
